WHAT IS DISSOCIATION?

Dissociation is a mental process where a person disconnects from their thoughts, feelings, memories, or sense of identity. It can serve as a coping mechanism in response to overwhelming stress, as in the case of complex trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder, by allowing individuals to distance themselves from distressing experiences.

While dissociation is a common reaction to trauma, it may become a persistent problem, leading to significant disruptions in daily life. People who experience dissociation may feel detached from their bodies, have gaps in memory, or experience a sense of unreality regarding their surroundings.

HOW WE CAN HELP

At Resilience, we understand the complexities of dissociation and are here to support you on your healing journey. Our therapists create a safe and compassionate environment to explore your experiences. We aim to build trust and help you understand the triggers and underlying causes of your dissociative symptoms.

Therapy will involve developing grounding techniques to help you stay present and connected to your body and emotions. We will work together to process traumatic memories and feelings, allowing you to regain a sense of control and stability in your life. Over time, we’ll focus on integrating fragmented parts of your identity and rebuilding a cohesive sense of self.

In our sessions, we may explore questions such as: What triggers your dissociative episodes? How do you feel when you experience dissociation? Understanding these aspects can empower you to manage your symptoms more effectively and enhance your relationships with others.
