Jane Kemp, LCSW

Jane Kemp (j ai n) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who obtained her master’s from the University of Chicago. Jane has worked in a variety of settings, including clinical psychology research, community health centers, hospitals and outpatient clinics. She practices from a holistic, trauma-informed perspective and values empirically supported interventions as much as she does alternative approaches to healing and facilitating growth.

Jane is passionate about working with people struggling with OCD, chronic anxiety, survivors of complex trauma, perfectionism, critical self-talk and people pleasing. She enjoys working with folks across the spectrums of gender and sexuality, and with those of many different constellations of racial, ethnic, spiritual and cultural backgrounds. Her therapeutic style has been described as warm, authentic, open and thoughtful.

Jane has a passion for helping her clients process and heal from past trauma, relearn how to feel safe in the present, and align with the most authentic version of themselves. She is dedicated to exploring clients’ lived experiences and freely chosen values, and using these to individually tailored practice and interventions that create a sense of vitality.

Jane believes in the foundational connection between the mind and body, as well as the systemic and contextual factors that drive behavior and emotional well-being. She has expertise and training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). While she values empirically supported interventions, she has also has an immense respect for yoga. Since completing her RYT 200 training in 2021, she integrates practices and teachings from this tradition into her work with clients.

Jane works to integrate these frameworks to cultivate awareness, process experiences verbally and somatically, generate insights and create a context for meaningful change. When working together, you can expect a thorough exploration of your relationship to your thoughts, memories and beliefs, as well as your emotions, bodily sensations and “gut feelings.” Jane leads with options for interacting with these internal experiences differently, and working to always support choice in sessions. She regularly shares practices supportive to this work inside and outside of session. Jane values the therapeutic alliance and understands that trust is built over time and by honoring autonomy and self-determination.

Outside of her work, Jane enjoys tending to her garden, listening and playing music, and furthering her knowledge of the yogic tradition through practice, engaging with the community and study. She deeply values her time with loved ones and her “Bubs,” a pair of fluffy cats who are her dearest treasures.
