“There is no better teacher than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.”
Hali (hay-lee) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) specializing in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive therapy. He earned his master’s in clinical mental health counseling from DePaul University and a bachelor’s in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. As a Black, biracial cis man who grew up poor in rural, predominantly white Wisconsin, Hali brings both personal and professional insight into the ways systemic oppression—including classism, racism, and capitalism—shape mental health.
Hali is passionate about working with marginalized individuals, those navigating relationships, and people impacted by systemic oppression. He sees therapy as a liberatory practice, offering clients a space to unpack how racism, capitalism, and structural inequality affect their well-being. His work is rooted in anti-racism, decolonization, and the belief that healing is both personal and collective.
Hali fosters a compassionate, inclusive, and affirming space where clients can explore their experiences without judgment. His approach integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness, helping clients develop emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. With a strong foundation in sociology and social justice, he empowers individuals to understand their struggles within the larger context of oppression—building resilience, agency, and meaning in the process.
Outside of therapy, Hali enjoys weightlifting, exploring Chicago’s vibrant culture, and immersing himself in hip-hop, a genre that fuels his passion for connection, storytelling, and resistance.
